Breaking Tradition

Updated: Nov 12, 2020

With Thanksgiving peaking around the corner, we have the opportunity to plan for an epic meal. This year might be a bit unconventional because many of us are still torn about spending time in close quarters with lots of people. Regardless, give yourself the space to create a delicious dinner no matter how many people you'll be with.

Personally, I've never been a turkey fan. In fact, the whole meal is made up of many least-favorites for me: turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. So here are a few alternatives that are tried and true:

Cassoulet. My husband made cassoulet every Thanksgiving and I loved how the scent filled the air for days. It's hearty, rich, and forces you to mellow into the meal.

Beet carpaccio. I made this many moons ago as a Thanksgiving appetizer and it was a resounding hit.

Vegetable strudel. This works as either an appetizer or a main. Consider preparing it for those pesky vegetarians.

Tarte dauphinoise. I first had this in Canada on a bitter cold night and it's decadently delicious. Try it instead of traditional mashed.

Pot pie. This is basically Thanksgiving dinner in savory pie format. What's not to love about that?
